Reducing your caracan insurance premium
There are a number of ways you can reduce the cost
of your caravan insurance. We have put together a few hints and tips to help you save
money on your caravan insurance premiums
Dont over insure - think about the cover you
need for your caravan
Have a think about the cover you actaully need for
your caravan. If, for example you do not take your caravan
abroad then don't choose a policy which includes it.
If your caravan is brand new or only a couple of years
old you might want to choose a policy which offers new
for old.
Remember: unless you fall into the new for old category
you will only get market value of your caravan back
if you claim and if you overegg the value of your caravan
you will be wasting your money.
Caravan Security
Most caravan insurance policies will have minimum security
requirements. Always make sure that you take note and
comply with these. If your caravan is stolen and they
can prove you did not have the required security the
chanses are they will not pay your claim. Could be a
very expensive mistake.
Some insurance policies offer discounts if you have
additional security devices such as trackers or electronic
tagging etc.
Experience and being claims free
If you are an experienced caravanner you may get a discount
if you have not had any claims. Some policies also have
no claim discounts (like you do with your car policy).
Where you store your caravan can make a difference
If you have your caravan in an approved storage site
[storage
site directory] some insurance companies will offer
a discount. Most will insist that it is stored on a
campsite, within the boundaries of your home or in a
caravan storage facility. You should read your policy
document carefully to ensure you are covered
Buy Online
Some Insurance providers offer a discount to customer
who buy online. It can save them admin costs of a call
centre and they pass this on to you.
Its always worth getting more than one quote to ensure
you are not paying too much. Don't go mad and call 10
inurance companies. 2-3 is enough to see if you are
paying the right price. Also don't purely buy on price,
you should consider the level of cover you get as well.
